The Negros Trade Fair Marks 40 Years with the Butlak Spirit

Meaning the rising of the sun or bloom, Butlak features style pieces that embody four decades of Negrense creativity.

The Negros Trade Fair’s 40th iteration, Butlak, continues its legacy of championing local excellence from September 22 to 27, 2026, at the SMX Convention Center Aura in SM Aura Premier, Taguig City, featuring 178 brands from the wider unified region, including the latest in slow fashion.

“We really try to bring all that the Negros Island region has to offer to the fair,” says chairperson Mary Ann Colmenares. “We are in bloom as we celebrate our 40th.”

The style offerings at the fair will see a significant growth this year, and will include brands such as Camille Villanueva, StyleLoft, Pinas Sadya, Reveri by Ria Bolivar, as well as Hacienda Mar, just to name a few.

Some of the brands that caught GQ Philippines’ eye include Tia Lacson The Label’s Medina Collection, inspired by Moroccan architecture. The collection features intricate men’s tops made of natural , lace, fine piña, and recycled materials, with specific pieces supporting embroiderers and seamstresses across Silay, Bacolod, and Talisay.

Then there’s Bacolod’s Vida with its signature Vivo Handmade collection, featuring ethnic weaves put together by the very best artisans of Negros Occidental to create bold and colorful bottoms. Two more standout labels are the cult favorite Lakat Sustainable, the sneaker brand that makes its stylish footwear entirely from pineapple fabrics, and Get Spotted, with its playful, modern take on the barong.

The Negros Trade Fair promises much more when it opens its large bazaar at the end of this month, featuring the best of what Negros and its surrounding areas have to offer. Negros, is particularly known for its rich weaving tradition, making it a popular resource for local fabric, tropical fibers, and natural dyes.
