Can Your Zodiac Sign Unlock Your Personal Style?

What the stars say about who you are and what you should wear.

“As above, so below.” If you ever had a brush with esotericism, that phrase will sound familiar. It captures an idea central to Hermeticism: the cosmos is a living and sacred unity where every part reflects and influences the whole. This ancient tradition connects to astrology through the law of correspondence, the principle that celestial movements in the macrocosm are reflected in and influence the microcosm of human beings. If these ideas sound a bit far out, they still resonate with a new generation seeking alternative frameworks for personal meaning.

Astrology is growing. According to The Economist, Gen Z and digital technology are driving this shift. Spend enough time on social media, and you’ll encounter everything from witty one-liners (‘I remember someone said that Scorpios are just Cancers in a leather jacket) to predictive readings. Astrology increasingly forms part of people’s identity. It is as common to see zodiac signs on Instagram bios as it is on dating app profiles. It has also become shorthand for certain personality traits or behavior (“You can’t surprise a Gemini,” Steve Lacy famously sings on “Bad Habit,” the second single from Gemini Rights).

Beyond one’s individuality, astrology has practical applications. Electional astrology, one of its branches, is about finding the most favorable time to do something. Common queries include when to get married or when to start a business. Jonathan Anderson was reported to have deliberately signed his Dior contract at 2 a.m. following astrological considerations.

So, if astrology touches the personal and pragmatic, could it also guide personal style?

To answer that, let us return briefly to Hermeticism. If the universe is a living, interconnected whole, as the tradition maintains, then everything participates in a web of relationships. This is evident in astrology, where each sign has a ruling planet, an element, a modality, among other correspondences. With a little imagination, one can extend these qualities to style. Here’s how to dress according to your zodiac sign.

(Note: For those of you with more than a cursory knowledge of astrology, feel free to use your rising sign instead of your sun sign.)

Aries

As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries is associated with initiative and courage. Ruled by Mars, this fire sign naturally lends itself to bold, cutting-edge fashion. A true Aries would rock the cut-off tank top from Dario Vitale’s much-talked-about but brief stint at Versace (bonus: it’s in Aries’ color, red).

Taurus

Taurus is the zodiac’s most luxurious sign. This Venusian earth sign craves beauty and high-end comforts. You will likely spot one in this Dries Van Noten jacquard coat. Its predominantly green floral motif reflects Taurus’s connection to Venus and the earth element.

Geminis

The Internet is divided on Geminis. You could be inspired by their curiosity one moment, then be on the receiving end of their unpredictability and sharp wit the next. This variation stems from Gemini’s quick, highly adaptable nature. Style-wise, I see Geminis selecting pieces that work in different environments, like Ralph Lauren’s cable-knit cotton sweater. It’s as perfect for a weekend trip to Tagaytay as it is for the office when worn over an Oxford shirt.

Cancer

The crab is a fitting symbol for Cancer: hard on the outside, soft on the inside. Ruled by the moon, this water sign is nurturing and protective. Look 7 from Ferragamo’s Fall 2026 collection, with its nautical codes, is definitely Cancer-coded. Wear the knitted sweater with the neck unbuttoned like brand ambassador Jingyu Huang.

Leo

Leo is the celebrity of the zodiac. Like its ruler, the Sun, this sign radiates natural star power. What then could be more fitting than bold jewelry? The Tiffany HardWear Graduated Link Necklace in Yellow Gold with Pavé Diamonds has Leo written all over it. Fun fact: In classical astrology, the Sun rules gold.

Virgo

Virgo is one of two signs ruled by Mercury (the other is Gemini). Its earthy nature grounds the planet’s dynamic energy in practicality and service. Known for their pragmatism as much as their discernment, Virgos would resonate with workwear-inspired fits. Cue the Sacai Sueded Cotton Pants.

Libra

The scales tell you that Libra is about balance and harmony. With Venus as its ruler, this air sign is aesthetically minded and possesses elegance and charm. You’re likely to find Libras at an art gallery when they’re not mediating a conflict between friends. It comes as no surprise that their clothes are bespoke, and when they purchase off the rack, they have them professionally altered.

Scorpio

There is a strong Scorpionic undercurrent in fashion. The water sign is known for its dark, mysterious nature and intensity, qualities traditionally associated with its modern ruler, Pluto, lord of the underworld. You can see it from Haider Ackermann’s leather ensembles for Tom Ford to Saint Laurent’s exploration of kink. Your brooding Scorpio friend will update his well-worn leather jacket with Saint Laurent’s Cassandre jacket in lambskin.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius is that one friend who’s always traveling. No surprises here, as this fire sign is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion, and is a mutable sign associated with change. Sagittarians will have wardrobes filled with pieces from their different trips. The colorful cotton print shirt they wore last week? Probably from a two-month sojourn in Indonesia.

Capricorn

Capricorn is the hustler of the zodiac. Saturn, the taskmaster, rules over it. As one of the earth signs, Capricorn channels Saturn’s demanding energy into hard work and discipline. They will focus more on building an enduring wardrobe than chasing fleeting trends. Bottega Veneta’s Getaway Briefcase in black (Saturn’s color) is right up their alley.

Aquarius

Eccentricity is the hallmark of Aquarius. They are innovative and fiercely independent. Sartorially, Aquarians march to the beat of their own drum. You will likely see them in clashing prints, uncommon color combinations, or pieces they’ve upcycled themselves.

Pisces

Dreamy, ethereal Pisces is the final sign of the zodiac. They are imaginative and compassionate. If there is one aesthetic that reflects this water sign well, it would be the soft boy. Prada’s printed cotton shirt, with its muted tones and faded finish, is Pisces to a T.

Virgo, ruled by Mercury and known for pragmatism, is linked to workwear-inspired pieces like Sacai’s sueded cotton pants, reflecting the sign’s grounded, practical nature within the guide’s zodiac-to-style framework.
